How to become the digestion queen for maximum weight loss and nutrient benefit
How to become a digestion queen for optimal health and weight loss. Breathing, chewing, prebiotics, probiotics.
Breathing and Digestion: the hidden magic
So, I recently read a life-changing fact: breathing can actually help my digestion! Who had seriously thought about the fact that a few mindful breaths before a meal could make such a difference? It’s like giving my stomach a pep talk before the food party starts. Taking time, to get into the zone, by either taking 5 big deep inhales and exhales, or one big inhale with a slow long exhale, can put your body into rest and digest mode. So it’s ready to receive and maximise the benefits of your food intake plus also decrease the amount you eat, an easy start to slim down.
Chewing: The Unsung Hero
Let’s talk about chewing—yes, that thing we all do but often forget to do properly. I’ve started to treat my food like it’s a tough steak that needs some serious work. What’s key? The more I chew, the easier it is for my stomach to do its job. Plus it gives my body extra time to realise that it’s full. Something all your mothers probably told you in your youth.
Before I dive into my meal, I take a moment to channel my inner Zen master with some deep breaths. Seriously, it’s like my body is saying, “Relax, lady; we’re about to digest some serious nutrients!” And during the meal? I’m all about that slow-breathing rhythm—like a meditative princess.
These two things alone will go a long! way to getting your gut to optimum. And controlling the amount you eat.
Pre and Probiotics: A little extra to hone
If your gut still needs something a little extra- it’s pre and probiotics.
Prebiotics are like the snacks for the good bacteria in my belly, while probiotics are like the party crashers bringing in reinforcements. Some of my favourite prebiotic choices are avocado, green apples, flaxseeds and garlic.
Add fermented foods for their probiotics, such as kimchi, sauerkraut, dairy-free kefir, and coconut yogurt, which can help balance the gut microbiome.
Together, they’re like a superhero team for my digestive system!
On top of all that, I stay hydrated (water is your bestie), eat more fibre (hello, salad!), avoid processed foods (goodbye, chips!), and manage stress through walking, pilates and meditation (or just binge-watching my favourite shows).
Combining mindful breathing with a balanced diet and some probiotic magic feels like I’m on the path to digestive greatness! Who knew that something as simple as breathing and chewing well could turn me into a digestion queen? Digestion, after all, is the start of GI elimination, where optimisation is imperative to weight loss.
